Elizabeth Anne Velásquez was born on March 13, 1989, in Austin, Texas with a rare condition known as Marfanoid–progeroid–lipodystrophy syndrome — a rare genetic disorder that affects her heart, eyes, and bones, and makes it impossible for her to gain weight.

In fact, she has never weighed more than 29 kg (64 lbs) and reportedly has almost 0% body fat. She is also blind in her right eye, and vision-impaired in her left eye. Her conditions resulted in bullying during her childhood.

In 2006 when she was 17 years of age, she was dubbed the ugliest woman in the world after her video appeared on YouTube. Many people bullied her with some advising her to commit suicide because of her looks!

At first, she was devastated when she learned she had been crowned the ugliest woman in the world but she resolved to stand firm to fight and proof those who think there is no beauty in her wrong.

In fact, she turned the situation to her favor by using the hate to motivate millions of others to beat back the bullies. These won her millions of admirers all over the world.

Lizzie Velásquez has become a sought-after motivational speaker, an anti-bullying activist; author of four life-transforming books, and of course, an inspiration to millions of people in the U.S And all over the world.

There is no way your life is going to remain the same if you take a moment to reflect on her words of wisdom.

1. “I think the best advice I've ever given is to not ever give up.”

3. “It is fine to be who you are. It is a good thing not to be just like everybody else. What makes you unique is what makes you beautiful, because it’s what makes you you. And the world needs you, exactly as you are. That’s the truth, plain and simple.”

4. "Bravery, perseverance, and humor: Once you have them you can tackle anything".

5. “We experience challenges in order to learn and grow. We have fears because we’re human, and our life’s work includes working through them, to come to a place of genuine self-acceptance, compassion, and love.”

Instead of keeping that bright, positive attitude and claiming “I’m fine!” no matter what’s really going on, we need to be honest, with ourselves and others, about how we’re really feeling.”

12. “If you want to change the world, you start small, right at home.”

18. “Pain and anger have to go somewhere. If we keep stuffing them down instead of processing them, we’ll end up either turning them inward, which isn’t good, or outward, which is no better.”

19. “You’re good enough as you are. You’re beautiful as you are! But equally accept that it is natural for everyone to love and be loved. We don’t need to run from love; we need to run toward it.”

20. “There's days where I'm like, in my mind, ‘I wish I could tell this person something!' But it's not going to accomplish anything. It's just going to be me sinking down to their level and a never-ending battle of hiding behind a computer screen.”

21. "As soon as I start doubting myself or questioning myself, I turn on my happy playlist, and it always picks me back up".
