As humans, it is normal to feel sad in response to the unpleasant events that occur in our lives. But when that sadness becomes intense or unexplained then it is time to scream out for help. Depression is a mental disorder that alters our mood and compels us to feel sad and lose interest in activities we find pleasurable.

When long- lasting and with moderate and severe intensity depression may become a serious health condition leading, at its worst, to suicide. According to the world health organization report, 800.000 thousand people kill themselves annually.

Depression is not something you should play with because it can cost you harm faster than you thought possible. If you are suffering from this mental disorder, listed below are 5 natural effective ways to win back your lost mood.

However, if the symptoms persist after acting on these instructions please contact your doctor.

1. Eat lots of Banana fruits

The importance of banana fruits to our wellbeing cannot be overemphasized. In fact, banana is one fruit nature designed to help us solve problems. Banana contains about 500mg of potassium which makes it one of the richest sources of potassium in the world.

In case you don’t know, Potassium is a mineral which helps to prevent high blood pressure and decreases the risk of heart disease and strokes. Banana is the perfect fruit for treating depression, and creating a positive mindset.

Also, it is one of the best prescriptions for those who want to lose weight faster and have a smooth, beautiful and youthful skin. It contains tryptophan an essential amino acid that creates niacin [an organic compound and a form of vitamin B3] which is essential in creating the neurotransmitter serotonin.

Serotonin is a mood-enhancing hormone that keeps us in a happy mood and helps us prevent mood disorder. It is sometimes referred to as happy chemicals. In fact, low levels of serotonin in the brain have been associated with depression.

Banana nutrition also includes antioxidants that help with the release of dopamine within the brain. Dopamine is another brain chemical or hormone that boosts our mood. Low level of dopamine can also cause stress and depression.

2. Eat a diet rich in protein and Omega-3 fatty acids

Eating foods rich in protein, such as eggs, beef, turkey, soybeans, and legumes can help boost a depressed person’s mood. They are two amino acids [building blocks of proteins] called tyrosine and phenylalanine that helps in the production of the mood-enhancing hormone dopamine.

These amino acids are found in protein-like-foods. Research has shown that increasing the amount of tyrosine and phenylalanine in the diet can increase dopamine levels in the brain.

Also, Omega fatty acids are essential nutrients that can boost a depressed person’s mood. Studies show that the lack of this fatty acid can cause depression.

The American heart association [AHA] recommends that everyone eats fish [particularly fatty, Coldwater fish] at least twice a week. Fish such as mackerel, tuna, sardines, and salmon are very high in Omega-3 fatty acids.

3. Listen to instrumental music

One of the greatest scientists of all time Albert Einstein once said, “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”

There is no doubt, without music the world would have been such a boring place. Music plays a vital role in our lives. Its benefit is much more than entertaining us.

In fact, the right kind of music can indeed boost dopamine level and help a depressed person overcome depression. Research has shown how music affects many parts of our brain very deeply.

Listening to instrumental music [music performed by a musical instrument or group of instruments] can stimulate dopamine release in the brain?

One of the biggest favors you can do for yourself when depressed is to listen to instrumental music. If you do this before long, you will regain back your lost mood.

4. Get a massage therapy

The massage therapy is used all over the world for different kinds of health- related purposes. In fact, it is considered part of complementary and alternative medicine [CAM] in countries such as the United States.

All over the world, People use this therapy to relax, relieve pain, reduce stress and overcome depression. Getting a massage is one way to reset your mindset when you are depressed.

In fact, this therapy helps to activate the oxytocin system [love hormone] and causes your brain to release mood-enhancing hormones such as endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine. Whenever you feel depressed get a massage.

5. Get increase amounts of sunlight

Most people suffer from depression during the winter season when they are unexposed to enough sunlight. This is because a low level of serotonin [mood-enhancing hormone] is associated with a form of depression known as seasonal affective disorder [SAD].

Getting increase amounts of sunlight can boost your mood because exposure to sunlight increases the brain’s release of serotonin. Note: Globally more than 300 people of all ages suffer from depression according to the World Health Organization.

Thinking you are not alone on this path can help improve your mood. Also, try to engage yourself in activities you find pleasurable even though it is the last thing you feel like to do. Remember, this is a favor you own yourself when depressed.

Thanks for giving me your time. If you are suffering from depression I wish you a quick recovery.
